The crater was described by the well-known animal researcher Bernhard Grzimek as the "eighth wonder of the world". The view from the crater rim is unique and shows the wonders of this earth in all their glory. The largest crater on earth that is not filled with water is considered the "Garden of Eden for animals".
The protected area is home to the graceful warrior people of the Maasai.
